Pressure Washing Tips

What type of tools are needed to clean a barn?
Francis Auchincloss writes "I need to offer a simple system to apply a readily soluable powder disinfectant that you dissolve with water to make up the ready to use disinfectant solution, this disinfectant solution should then be applied at low pressure to disinfect all surfaces and equipment in hog barns."

Harold: Getting cleaner and disinfectents into pressure washer systems at consistent rates can be a hassle. Operating larger pressure washers without pressure on the supplying water line can lead to problems and therefore it is not a practical way to introduce chemicals to a unit.

Additionally, many of the large agricultural barns use multiple drops in their pressure washer lines thereby changing the distance from the washer unit. This leads to inconsistent amounts of chemicals being introduced into the system at the pump on its high pressure side as the operator moves further away from the pump.

Many operators end up using one of two systems, both involving the moving of a concentrated pail of the chemical with them from station to station. One system is a small inexpensive low pressure inlet that the operator carries from station to station with his solution.

The second way is to use a foaming tool that has the advantage of adding water chemical and air through a set of screens and thereby spraying a foam solution that stays on surfaces longer giving the chemical more time to react. This makes it possible to use less chemical to get the job done. Both these tools have adjustments to control how much chemical is introduced.
