What type of pump is better, radial axial or direct couple crank shaft?
Steve Derr asks " What is the best pump for occational use in the 2400 psi range, axial or plunger, and what are the advantages or disadvantages of each?"
Harold: Both radial axial pumps and direct couple crank shaft pumps will give you good service and the efficiency difference between the two isn't worth talking about.
The one thing to watch for is the speed at which a motor is driving a pump. The faster a pump rotates the shorter its life. A common practice among certain manufacturers to make a cheaper pump is to use a high speed low torque 3450 RPM motor. These generally don't last as long.

By mistake I ran my pump without water running. How do I know if I damaged my pump? What are the PROs & CONs between electric and gas models? I have seen axial pumps mentioned often. What does axial mean? |
