Pressure Washing Tips

My older pressure washer has gotten weaker, how do I reverse the process?
Gene Burgess writes "My 7 year old Karcher K 5800 Honda powered pressure washer doesn´t have the `punch´ it used to have, and now I have to twist the nozzle from low pressure to high pressure in order to get it to go to high pressure. Even then, it just doesn´t have the pressure it did when it was new."

Harold: When an older washer starts to lose its pressure there are a number of parts that I would check out first.

  • Check to see if the speed of the Honda motor has dropped.
  • Replace your nozzle, it is probably worn and the oriface size is now too large to hold up the pressure.
  • Check your pressure seals. If the pressure seals become worn or dirty they will allow the pressure to drop off.
  • If the valves hae become worn or dirty they will allow the pressure to drop off.
  • The last thing to check would be the condition of the unloader.

The above scenarios are the usual things that could cause the problem you mentioned. First check to see if any of the above problems have occured, if not then your pressure washer might have a more serious problem and you should get it repaired where you purchased the unit.
