Why is my motor not loading up when I engage the wand?
Michael McLin asks "I replaced the hose on my pressure washer with a slightly larger hose. Would this cause a significant drop in pressure? But I also do not hear the motor loading up whenever engaging the wand. Could this be the problem?"
Harold: Increasing the hose size will not reduce the operating pressure of your unit. There is most liking something else that is causing the problems you mentioned.
Here are some things to look for that could be causing your problem:
Use the correct size of nozzle. Oversizing nozzles will reduce the pressure of your unit.
Make sure there isn't dirt in your nozzle. This can cause a drop in pressure.
Check to see if the pressure regulating adust handle is turned in.
Make sure there isn't dirt in the valves. This is indicated by a fluttering water spray.
You could also have worn seals on the plungers in your unit. This is indicated by water leaks or oil turning milky.
There could be a problem with the unloader, if you notice your unit bypassing water internally.
